8 March – Unrelenting struggle for women’s equality!

It is a day to honour women’s struggles for equality, for equal rights in society, at work, in life itself. We continue to honour and celebrate the 8th March, the International Woman’s Day, until we achieve true equality, true freedom from all the slavery that forces us to serve our multifaceted daily lives without end. We are working women, mothers, students, housewives who are giving a real struggle not to reach despair!

We were informed of the company’s “gift”, the day before the anniversary of the women’s uprising, of free hairdressing and make-up services and we really wonder. What our female colleagues today are missing is a nice haircut and a well-done make-up? Don’t we need human working conditions? Understanding and support for working mothers? Support for female students? Respect and recognition?

In a workplace where we have recently received complaints from working mothers about unacceptable behaviour. Typical of what was said were things like no matter what if you are a mother of a new baby, you will come to the office”, “if your child is sick, take annual leave”, “if you have an exam, you will make up for it with overtime”.

We are of course not surprised that we are treated as pawns on their chessboard. With beautiful hair and well-painted lips, perhaps, but always pawns in the service of over-producing profit for the “king”.

In the past few days, we have participated in the most magnificent mobilisations this country has ever known. The whole nation shouted loudly that the crime in Tempe will not be allowed to be covered up, that all the guilty parties without exception must be held accountable, that measures must be taken to ensure that no similar predestined crime will ever happen again, ever, anywhere.

We honour and celebrate the 8th of March with all our soul and the optimism that comes from the struggles!

We call everyone to join on Friday 7/03 at 19.00 at Syntagma to continue the struggle against the policy that leads to “new Tempe”.

We participate in the event organized by the Federation of Women of Greece (OGE) with Unions and mass organizations on Saturday 8/3, at 11:00 at Syntagma at the beginning of Ermou and in the march that will follow to Monastiraki.

WE ARE INSPIRED BY THE GREAT WOMEN’S LABOUR STRUGGLES

WE ESCALATE THE STRUGGLE FOR OUR LIVES AND THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN
