MAY DAY IS NOT A BANK HOLIDAY
IT’S A STRIKE
The workers of Concentrix, who come from almost every corner of the globe, we honour May Day by participating massively in the strike mobilisation. We put down the headset, turn off the chats, put aside our back-office work and stand up in memory of those who gave their lives to ensure that today we have 8 hours of work, freedom and the right to live a life with rights.
We honour the memory of the fallen of Chicago in 1886 and Thessaloniki in 1936. The 200 communists of Kaisariani on May Day 1944. The victims of the crime in Tempe. The at least 200 deaths that our class has mourned from industrial accidents in the last two years. The thousands of deaths and refugees generated by the rotten system we live under. Wars, disasters, genocide, mothers with babies in boats ending up in liquid graves. Palestine, Syria, Lebanon. Every corner of the world where “people are killed for the master’s food”.
Either their profits or our lives.
we will not take a step back.
Today, more urgently than ever, we have a duty to intensify the struggle for work with conditions and wages that meet modern needs. Today, 139 years after the bloody workers’ uprising in Chicago, we work in complete insecurity. The eight-hour shift, which was achieved more than a century ago, seems like a distant memory. The salaries run out on the very first 10 days of the month, and every month we throw to chance which bills we will leave unpaid for the next month.
In a company like Concentrix, where every now and then we are informed about the profit barrier that is constantly being exceeded thanks to our work, it is unacceptable that there are workers who have panic attacks, who are told on Friday night what time they will work on Monday, where the complaints to the labour inspectorate about labour rights violations are never-ending.
Colleagues, our Union recently reached its first year of existence. A Union created through struggles, through unprecedented strike battles. Let this May Day be a great birthday celebration for our Union, alongside our sectoral union, the SETIP.
We strengthen our class struggle against the system that deprives us of oxygen!
Everyone to the May Day strike at 10:30 am at Syntagma
